The first annual U.S. Army Orchestra Cello Workshop has been established as a way to bring professional military and civilian performers, educators, amateur performers, and students together to expand their knowledge of the cello.  A weekend of free cello events including on Saturday a cello choir for all levels (sponsored by the KCS), a master class with Steven Doan, and a recital of the U.S. Army Strings Cello Quartet.  On Sunday there will be a master class with David Teie on orchestra excerpts, a careers discussion, and a concert which includes The U.S. Army Strings performing the Vivaldi Two Cello Concerto, Steven Doane performing the Schumann Cello Concerto, and David Teie and Steven Honigberg performing the Ott Two Cello Concerto.

Baroque music specialists, John Moran and Risa Browder, will perform works by Bach, Corelli, Torelli, and others in a RusticWay Chamber Music Program.  John, the President of the Kindler Cello Society of Washington, plays baroque and classical cello and viola da gamba.  Ms. Browder has also had a long and varied career on the violin, viola, and viola d'amore.  Together they founded Modern Musick and, as faculty of the Peabody Conservatory, co-direct the Baltimore Baroque Band.  The hour-long program will be followed by refreshments.  Suggested donation at the door of $15 ($5 students) will go to an honorarium for the artists and the community's Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund.  Contact Kris Gilbert, 703-354-7305 or by email Krgilbert@aol.com for reservations.
