2010 Millennium Stage Performance

KINDLER CELLO SOCIETY of WASHINGTON, DC
MILLENNIUM STAGE PERFORMANCE

Friday, December 17, 2010 at 6 pm (rehearsal schedule shown below)

The Kindler Cello Society is sponsoring an event for members on December 17th at the Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center: a cello choir performance.  We are very fortunate to have Jesus Manuel Berard, conductor of the DC Youth Orchestra and professor of conducting at American University, to lead us for this event.  Manny is an energetic and communicative conductor.  It has been a number of years since this event has occurred but we were able to secure a date in December and we are ready to begin preparations.  All members of the club are welcome to participate including young students, advanced students, amateurs, and professionals.  If you are not yet a member, dues are $10 for students and $20 for adults for the year.  While this event is open to all members free of charge, if you would like to lend further support to the event, which we estimate will cost the Society about $10 to 15 per participant, with a monetary  contribution, we will gratefully accept contributions. Checks for membership or donations can be made payable to the Kindler Cello Society of Washington, DC.  (More information on the Kindler society and the benefits of membership is available at our website: http://kcswiki.pbworks.com/)  This is a great opportunity for students, amateurs, and pros to play together and share our love of music and the cello.

Cello choir pieces are for intermediate students, advanced students, adult amateurs and professionals.  The levels would be as follows:
Part 1) Cellists who can read treble/tenor clef and use thumb position
Part 2) Cellists who can read treble/tenor clef and who play through 6th position
Part 3) Cellists who can play in keys up to 2 sharps and 2 flats and know first through 4th position

Part 4) Cellists who can play in keys up to 2 sharps and 2 flats and have experience playing in an orchestra.

Some of the selections will be:  Hungarian Dance No. 5  by Brahms arr. by Gruselle, Dona Nobis Pacem arr. by Bissinger, Mellow Cellos Tango by Kibbe and Lengend by Tchaikowsky arr. by Hampton.

The Suzuki pieces are for students who know any or all of the following pieces located in Bks. 1 and 2:  French Folk Song, Go Tell Aunt Rhody, Rigadoon, and March in G.  Students may also be able to learn the two carols - We Wish You a Merry Christmas and Deck the Halls.
